Fernbank aims to make science accessible and understandable to all. In order to accomplish this goal, their environmental design must be informative yet engaging. Through the use of a comforting color palette, the visitors will not feel out of place. The signage will contain the “fossil” motif in order to immerse the visitors in their experience and gain an appreciation for natural history. The interactive exhibit will allow kids to learn and understand what they are being taught. This is important because, according to researchers Lucija Andre, Tracy Durksen, and Monique L. Volman, “activities and strategies that evoked curiosity, excitement, memorable moments, discussions and explorations during exhibits, together with peers or/and family members form a common base for children’s learning in all museum types. Based on these findings, [they] recommend hands-on activities.” An infographic is also employed to reinforce the learning and allow for dense information to become more digestible.
